SHR's always on the look for new volunteers to help ensure the station stays on air, entertaining patients at Scunthorpe General Hospital. If you have just an hour a week to spare then we could make good use of it and, if you're worried about talking into a microphone, don't be. There are plenty of jobs behind the scenes that are just as rewarding. Would you fit the bill? Have you an hour to spare a week? We're run on a voluntary basis, by people like you. Our members ages range from 16 to 70, male and female. Some members are unemployed, others are students, steelworkers, retired teachers, hospital staff, a chef, a former police constable, a BT engineer - the list is endless. Some even work in professional radio. All have one thing in common, a desire to help entertain people in hospital, taking their minds off what can sometimes be a frightening experience in a strange environment. If you like to help us achieve our aim then please get in touch.

New Member's FAQ Who can join? We welcome volunteers of all ages, sadly however for security and insurance reasons, we are unable to recruit volunteers under 17 years of age. There is no upper age limit! All volunteers will be subject to security checks with the Criminal Records Bureau due to the nature of our work within the NHS. How much time would I have to devote? As much or as little as you can afford. Usually we ask for a couple of hours a week but understand you may not always be available to help out. Can I work for SHR? SHR is run totally by volunteers. No one "works" or gets paid at the station. We're also unable to accept work experience placements. What would I be required to do? All of our volunteers start by taking part in our three month training programme. This gives you the chance to meet the team at SHR and see whether hospital radio really is for you. You'll see and take part in live programming, plus go out on the wards meeting our listeners - the patients - collecting requests from them.
